The Marina Tower is a new high-rise block of 500 residential units being built in Vienna’s 2nd district, close to the city centre on the banks of the Danube. The building also offers space for a kindergarten, a fitness centre, a medical centre, shops and restaurants. The Marina Tower has “Gold” sustainability certification from the Austrian Sustainable Building Council (ÖGNI). The general contractor for the ground-up building work commissioned Implenia to build the construction pit and three basement floors, lay the foundations and handle the dewatering. A diaphragm wall, secured by around 60 anchors, is being built over an area of 3,000 m2 as a single-skin enclosure for the construction pit. Implenia is also building deep foundations down as far as 35 m. 110 bored piles form the foundation for a generous public promenade with direct access to the right bank of the Danube. The “Marina Deck” will form a wide pedestrian bridge over the Handelskai road and provide various options for leisure and recreational activities.
